Always Late

After a full year of 9 a.m. church, we swapped and today we moved to 11 a.m. Misguided by what felt like a lavish amount of time, I fixed a hot breakfast of muffins, bacon and fried eggs, and then jumped in for a leisurely shower… which of course meant that at 10:50 I was buttoning boys’ shirts and crawling around in my skirt and heels looking for a matching sock for Bean and Abby’s other church shoe. I guess it really just doesn’t matter what the clock says… we’re gonna roll in late.

  1. our first year, ever, of 1 o’clock church, and we skated in as the prelude ended and the second counselor dismissed the reverent examples. Better luck next week, I guess.

  2. Better late than never.

    Just sayin’… 🙂

The one thing about living in an area without a lot of members is that there is only one ward that meets in our building and we always meet at 10:00. Not changing meeting times every year actually makes it easier to get into a habitual schedule. Of course, we also have a 50-mile round trip to church every week…

    • That is a double-edged sword, Michelle- we’re about 500 yards from our building, but three wards meet there… 9 am, 11 am and 1 pm. It’s insane.

  3. Yes, we are lucky – we live less than a mile from our building but we change times every year as well. We only have two wards in ours (we live in a small town of less than 20,000 and there are two buildings and 4 wards) so we changed from 9 to 11 and we did the same, walked in as the Bishop was welcoming everyone even though we felt like we had an extraordinary amount of time!

  4. I’m the same as Michelle AM but without the 50-mile round trip. The ward I’ve attended for the last 12 years is the only one in the building and we meet at 9:30AM. About 10 years ago, they changed it from 9AM to 9:30AM and oh, the outcries! You would have thought the world was coming to an end.

  5. We changed from 8:30 am to 11:00 am, and it is heaven! Who can get to church on time with five kids when Sacrament starts at 8:30? Not us…

  6. We only have 2 wards in our building too, so it’s either 9 or 12:30. I thought that getting there at 12:30 would be so easier. Wrong, we made it just in time for the sacrament song. Next week will be better, mainly because the kids will be at their dad’s and it will just be me getting ready. At least I hope I can get there on time!

  7. We also changed from 8:30 to 11:00. But we have a 15 minute drive to get there, plus 3 wards in the building that are all super big. A lot of the buildings in our stake are functioning at over maximum capacity (which is why we’ll be 1:30 instead of 1 next year, and why we were 8:30 instead of 9 – one ward in another building meets at 7:30). We NEED more building space, badly, but it takes a loooong time to get a new building built.
