Humidity…

Just for the record, this is what’s become of my nice sleek hair from the graduation picture below. Each day, it seems to get bigger and bigger. Alas, I have given up. I surrender. I wasn’t kidding when I said my flat-iron was cowering in the closet…

  1. I loved my hair until I moved New York, then I wanted to die. I finally found a curly hair salon that changed my life. (Sidenote: how awesome is that? A salon JUST for curly girls) My stylist told me to brush my hair with a paddle brush while it’s dripping wet. Keep it dripping and apply half gel, half anti-frizz serum (I use Bedhead control freak shampoo, conditioner, and serum). Apply more than you think you need. A quarter size of each mixed in your palm. Scrunch it into your hair and then don’t touch it….for hours. The fact that it takes so long makes this easier to do at night (mine takes 4-5 hours). He even suggested that I wear a hairnet to bed to keep my hair close to my head while still allowing it to dry. In the morning your hair will be super crunchy, 80’s style, so you have to shake it out. I mean really shake it. Think of Willow Smith and whip your hair back and forth. Shake until its not crunchy. Works wonders for me, so good luck.

  2. I’ve found a few web sites that specialize in teaching curly girls what to do as mine has started to curl as I age. But honestly – Northern Virginia in the summer? I don’t know how any woman with thick hair of any type wears it down. It’s too miserable. Mine’s in an up-do from late May until early September. Then I enjoy wearing it down all the more. Good luck!
